Week 6- Summary on Social Media Safety

Hi Nicole, Dawn, Travis and Daniel,

Posted in iLearn is this weeks summary.  Thank you to everyone for their hard work this week and I look forward to working with everyone over the next two weeks.

Thank you all to your great work this week.  Posts were timely and chocked filled with great information.  Blog layouts were visually stimulating which attracted views and kept the conversations going. Team members used personal examples to deliver this weeks topic importance. Which when blogging is a great way to interact with your audience.

Below is a summary of important themes, lessons and tips from your blogs.

Social Media Check List From Team 1:

·      Evaluate who you are ‘friending” – Choose who you are friending very carefully. Ask yourself do I really know this many people and more importantly should they know personal information abut you.
·      Be smart about what you are posting- By posting vacation status update makes you vulnerable and a target for burglary.
·      Keep your system safe- Utilize and keeping anti-virus software up to date is key to eliminate the possibility of hackers.  Utilize the “do not track” option in your browser.  Additionally, regularly clear your computers “cookies and caches”.  These items hold personal data and passwords.
·      Be responsible and use common sense- You are what you post.
·      Create unique passwords-Comprise passwords that contain a combinations of letters, numbers, characters and symbols
·      Log off your accounts- After “visiting” a site, make sure you utilize the log off tab, especially when using a public computer
·      Adjust your privacy settings-On your sites you control who can see your information.  Post personal profile information very carefully

Feedback
This week’s topic is surely one everyone can resonate with. It is so important to stay safe while online, especially on social media platforms. I appreciate everyone thoroughly performing this weeks reading and comprising safety checklists that everyone can implement.

Out of all the weeks, I felt this week everyone was more comfortable with all the social media platforms and utilized them to drive traffic to your blogs. Excellent job! Moving forward keep this going.  Additionally, a great way to keep conversations moving and gain more involvement is to ask questions.

I’ve enjoyed being this week’s team leader and I hope all of you did as well.  One of my goals was to try and drive as much traffic to your blogs as possible.  I did this by trying to come up with catchy tweets to spark interest. I do believe this helped. You guys did this as well; great job and keep it up moving forward.  As we become more proficient across all social media platforms, this platform engagement will become easier and more natural.
Keep up the great team and individual work and I look forward to working with everyone over the next two weeks.
Thank you.
Joanna
